Data Practices & Processing Architecture

Privacy Policy

Last Updated: September 2026

1. Overview

The Alchemist Artists (“we,” “our,” or “us”) provides an interactive art studio and creative learning platform to help artists study visual value hierarchy, composition armatures, color harmonies, and master-painter techniques. This Privacy Policy describes how data is handled across our website, distinguishing between local in-browser processing and optional AI features.

2. Core Studio Image Processing (In-Browser Only)

For all core tools in the Artist Studio — including Coloring Book line inking, 2/3-Value Notan quantization, Munsell value scales, contrast heatmaps, composition armatures, negative space analysis, artistic techniques, master painter transforms, pen retouching, 4-panel study sheets, and printable exports:

  • Local Canvas Execution: All image decoding, pixel filtering, and rendering occur 100% locally within your device's browser using HTML5 Canvas APIs.
  • No Server Uploads: For these core functions, your uploaded photographs and images do not leave your browser and are never transmitted to, processed by, or stored on servers controlled by The Alchemist Artists.
  • Temporary Session State: Images loaded into the studio reside temporarily in browser memory and are discarded when the tab is closed or reloaded.

3. Optional Google Gemini AI Art Mentor

The Artist Studio includes an optional interactive AI Painting Guide powered by Google's Gemini API:

  • Data Transmission: If and only if you choose to ask a question using the AI guide, your written question and a visual snapshot (converted to base64 JPEG format) are sent directly from your browser via HTTPS to Google's API endpoint (generativelanguage.googleapis.com) to generate painting instruction text.
  • API Key Storage: If you enter an optional custom Google Gemini API key in the configuration settings, it is saved directly to your browser's local storage (localStorage.setItem('gemini_api_key', ...)). It is stored on your device and transmitted only to Google's API endpoint when making AI queries. It is never sent to The Alchemist Artists.
  • AI Responses: Responses returned by Google Gemini are displayed in your browser interface during your active session; they are not saved to any database by our website.
  • Google Privacy Policy: Data sent to Google Gemini is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

4. Cookies, Analytics & Tracking

  • Website Analytics: We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors engage with our educational art lessons and interactive studio tools (measuring aggregate metrics such as page views, general geographic region, session duration, and device category). This aggregated data helps us improve lesson content and studio tool performance.
  • Privacy & Data Minimization: Google Analytics operates using first-party measurement identifiers. We do not use third-party advertising tracking pixels (such as Meta Pixel), cross-site behavioral ad retargeting, or invasive session recording software. Personally identifiable information (such as your name, email, or drawings made in the studio) is never collected or sent to Google Analytics.
  • Opting Out: You can prevent your data from being used by Google Analytics by installing the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or configuring your browser to block tracking scripts.
  • Hosting Infrastructure: The website is hosted via Firebase Hosting (Google Cloud), which maintains standard HTTP server access logs (such as IP address, browser user agent, and request timestamps) strictly for security, caching, and network delivery.

5. Browser Local Storage (localStorage)

Browser localStorage is used exclusively for saving an optional user-provided Google Gemini API key locally on your device. No artwork, personal profiles, or tracking identifiers are written to local storage.

6. Products & Future E-Commerce

The “Products” tab is currently an informational preview describing future artisan sketchbooks and art resources. No payment gateways, credit card processing, billing records, or shopping cart mechanisms are present or collected on this site.

7. Children's Privacy

The Alchemist Artists is intended for general audiences interested in art education and creative tools. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
